At Tolpoort Vegetables, quality is central to everything we do. Our customers rely on receiving fresh, safe, and healthy vegetables every day, including our cauliflower, broccoli, and chicory. We earn that trust through clear quality agreements, thorough inspections, and a careful checking process—from arrival to delivery.
Quality begins at the source
Quality doesn’t start in the warehouse; it begins in the field. That’s why we work closely with our affiliated growers, who share our values and standards. Together, we establish clear agreements about the desired level of quality. Because we work with natural products, perfectly uniform quality is not always possible—but it is always our goal.
Our inspectors play a central role in this process. They carefully check all products upon arrival and before shipment, following general quality standards as well as specific product requirements from our customers. Based on these inspections, the right products are allocated to the right customers. Inspectors also maintain close contact with growers, both in the warehouse and in the field. This intensive collaboration gives us complete insight into the origin of our products and the conditions under which they were grown, allowing us to consistently guarantee reliable quality.
Strict inspections upon arrival
As soon as products are delivered from the fields to Tolpoort, they are carefully inspected, and the results are recorded in a quality report. Our experienced inspectors assess each batch against fixed criteria, such as:
- Appearance (color, shape, and uniformity)
- Freshness and shelf life
- Size and weight
- Any damage or defects
Inspections upon arrival are essential to immediately understand the quality and condition of products at the moment they arrive. Based on this assessment, products are handled, stored, and sorted appropriately to meet customer expectations and quality requirements. This ensures that each product reaches its optimal destination while maintaining quality throughout the process. Our responsibility does not end at loading; we want our products to arrive at the customer shelves in excellent condition.
Continuous checks during processing
We remain vigilant throughout sorting, packaging, and storage. Additional inspections take place at multiple stages to ensure products continue to meet the criteria established upon arrival. We also regularly conduct residue analyses. This allows us to take immediate corrective action when needed and prevents deviations from progressing further down the chain. For us, quality is not just a final check—it’s a continuous process.
Quality tailored to the customer
Every customer is unique, and so are their quality requirements and expectations. That is why we carefully align our inspections and product specifications with the agreements made with each customer. Together, we determine which quality criteria apply and how they will be monitored. Whether delivering to retail, foodservice, or the industrial market, we ensure that our products meet the required quality standards. The high regard for our products is reflected in the quality scores of 8 and 9 that Tolpoort Vegetables regularly receives from retail customers.
